Dear prospective sailors...

I’m Kai, one of the Co-Captains this academic year for the Sailing club at UCI. Sailing is one of my greatest passions!! I've been sailing competitively all through high school and have spent countless hours on the water before and after UCI. 

 

I’m Rick and I’ve been sailing recreationally all over California in all sized boats since I was a little kid, and found a new passion, and great success, in competing since finding the UCI sailing team. 

Since joining, we've traveled thousands of miles, competed against some of the best teams on the West Coast, and found a community that has become probably the single most fun part of our college experience. We have sailed with everyone from national competitors to first time sailors while we’ve been on the team and have had a blast with every single person. Even if you don’t have racing experience, it is extremely rewarding to take whatever sailing knowledge you have and multiply that in a wonderful environment into the best competitive outlet at UCI (not biased or anything).

 

We get out on the water every week and multiple times a quarter travel up and down the West Coast to compete in regattas in the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference at all sorts of gorgeous locations from San Francisco to Hawaii, and everywhere in between. Just last year we won numerous regattas, were invited to the conference championships, and placed extremely well. And regardless of the competitive aspect, some of our coolest memories with the team have been gorgeous sunsets on the mountains or water while eating dinner with the team after a regatta.
